Head of Fundraising

Wednesday February 1, 2017

Diversity Role Models is an education charity that tackles prejudice and encourages critical thinking through positive role modelling for young people. Now in our 6th year of operation, we deliver workshops to primary and secondary students, teachers and governors across the UK.

We are seeking an energetic and creative fundraiser with the ability to generate income of around £500k a year. Our income is generated across the spectrum of income strands; community fundraising, individual donations, trust and foundation income, events, and corporate sponsorship, with the latter two being the most significant streams for us. The successful applicant will come to the organisation with a successful track record across the income streams, plentiful ideas and a passion for the cause.

Our new Head of Fundraising will develop and deliver a strategy for income generation that will allow us to reach even more schools and to be creative about our approach to tackling inequality.

Skills and Qualities Needed

You will be a leader who is excited by the idea of overseeing our annual income targets, and filled with innovative ideas on how to identify and attain a range of local and national funding.

You will be a dynamic and energetic fundraiser with a passion for engaging donors with our cause and generating income from these relationships. Your communication skills and methods of engaging with internal and external partners and stakeholders will be excellent.

You will have considerable experience of successfully managing bids for funds from trusts, foundations and the National Lottery and you will be able to lead our efforts, manage our application processes and see them through to fruition.

You will be able to develop a fundraising strategy for the board and underpin it with thorough planning and follow up with thorough reporting.

You will have a good eye for detail and a determination to achieve full accuracy, particularly in financial reporting.

You must be willing and able to roll up your sleeves and be active and supportive of other team members.   You will have a natural ‘hands on’ approach and you will enjoy the opportunities you have within our team to take initiative and proactively make a difference.

You will be committed and passionate about diversity and inclusion.

We are a small team.  We need you to bring all of your experience, passion and ideas into our team to help us deliver.  You will help to lead and inspire your colleagues.  In our team, good communication is the key to our success.

Your Role

Fundraising

You will draw on your experience to lead and drive forward DRM’s fundraising strategy.

You will be autonomous in your research and development of funding opportunities from trusts and foundations.  You will be comfortable writing and submitting our applications.

You will enjoy the responsibility of managing donor relationships to retain all existing individual donors and you will use innovation to encourage new donors to join us.

You will be confident and innovative around drawing funding from new corporate partners and managing existing corporate relationships.

You will have innovative ideas around fund-raising events and support our Head of Operations to deliver on these.

Along with the CEO, you will have a firm hand on ensuring our activity around the country is financially sustainable.

Communications & Finance

You will be a confident communicator and presenter.  You will be comfortable representing DRM in meetings, workshops and events with external stakeholders.

You will be comfortable to present your budget plans and financial reporting to senior stakeholders and our board.
